Hooray! I have a forum now!

Why do I have a forum now, you ask?

Well, information on Ishara and the games tends to be scattered, as are the people who enjoy it. A forum gives everybody a centralized location to get together and geek out about the games, stories, art, and other stuff. Besides, I figure it can't hurt anything, unless the logo gives somebody eyeball cancer or something.

If nothing else, this will be a consistant place to find announcements from yours truly. Major things I will still post elsewhere, but right now, Eka's Portal is pretty much the only place where I post anything short of a massive update.

So come one and all, and bask in the glory of each other's company.

Hello! I've been lurking mostly on Eka's, but the sheer size of that place was intimidating. Yay for Duamutef and his forum! :)

Kind of a late post but I must always have 1 (I just noticed these were here). The Yahoo group thing is kind of hard to navigate and it looks cluttered to be honest so this should be better I hope.

Now I can just lurk forever, also is it at all possible to add custom monsters to VRPG that don't use generic stats or is the stat scaling based on their image hardcoded in?

It is possible, yes. If you look in homecity.txt or VRPGData.txt it has prototypes of all the map creation commands. In this case you'll want to use the basic "MONTYPE" command to define the monster's stats, then the RANDOMMONSTERS command to populate the map with them. When using the commands, replace the forward slashes ("//") with pounds ("#"). (Basically, the slashes comment them out so the game doesn't read them.)

Better Forums, More Features, More Updates

It would be really neat if you would expand your forum. I know there are people willing to help you out in that, and the forum is rather bland and lacking character, except for the little banner, but that's the same one as on your site. Heck, there are likely some trustworthy people who can program the forum and stuff for you, so you don't have to let it take up your time.

I would also like a dynamic Ishara P&P style RP game, with advanced smithy-ing, material gathering, character building, customizing, and voring system. Sometimes in a mood to think up of various materials and armor, places and planets, monsters and treasures, or just plain sexy roleplaying and voring. All in all, I would love it if the forum and your site became the central hub for all things Ishara, and for it to really take off and expand.

I have thought about the latter to some length. The problem always ends up being about the same; the systems I could design that would work online or on a forum are more involved than a typical person wants. Most vore roleplayers are just that: roleplayers. They're not necessarily P&P gamers as well. P&P systems are harder to work with than other games, and systems that work online are the trickiest kind.

I have an online roleplaying system that works well, but the nature of the system means it only works with strategy-minded gamers. If you can build a Warhammer army or enjoy playing CCGs you'd do great with this system; the problem is most people, even roleplayers, don't do either. I estimate that we'd end up with three or four players at best, and with that few the game would need a GM. I wasn't inclined to put in the time (I've run many online games and they are huge timesinks--they rival and even exceed game projects) so I never implemented the more advanced or vore-related aspects of the system.

I've mulled over ways to compromise, fudge, and whatever else I could think of to make a reasonably rich Isharan experience that was more interactive than a story but less time-intensive than a game (either a video game or GMing a forum or e-mail game). The solutions have always left something to be desired in one area or another in that they either ask too much of the players, ask too much of me, or just plain old suck.

But I'll think of something. It took me like five years to come up with a genuinely good combat system that would work over e-mail, but I did it. It took me ten years to release a decent game, but I did it. Assuming I don't just die first, I'll find some way to bring this universe to life.
